What do you understand by the environment? – The word environment is a combination of ‘par’ and ‘cover’. ‘Pari’ means ‘all around’ and cover means ‘circle’. Thus environment means circle or circle around. Environment is called Environment in English. This word originated from the French verb word “Enveronner, which means to surround. That is, the circle that surrounds us. In this way, whatever physical or non-physical things are present around the creature, it is its environment. The environment around human beings has many natural powers and substances such as: sun, moon, stars, mountains, river, lake, sea, forest. , Is surrounded by air, heat, earth, climate etc. Along with this, the environment of man is also surrounded by many sociocultural components such as religion, morality, ethos, social values, practice, institution, society etc. Therefore, all these conditions can be termed as environment.
In fact, the word ‘Environment’ can be said to be synonymous with the word ‘Envelope’, which means Perception. In this way, the environment is the environment that surrounds the human being and affects his organism and actions.
Nature of Environmental Studies – The subject area of environmental studies is wide. The day-to-day expansion in the objective of the study has made environmental studies multi-disciplinary or Maltdisciplinary. Today, the study of the environment has become an approach rather than a specialized branch of the subject of biology and geography, it is being studied extensively in many subjects like science, commerce, social science, management etc. The role of experts such as sociologist, geographer, economist, politician, manager, jurist, engineer etc. has become important. Environmental studies is a subject whose limitations touch or overlap many disciplines or disciplines. The study of environment done in different subjects such as zoology, botany, ecology, sociology etc. is limited to some aspects rather than summons, but each subject plays its role in environmental protection by studying special aspects of environment. It is necessary to use the knowledge of experts in various disciplines or fields for environmental studies.
“Environment is an enternal power that effects us.” – E.J. Ross
“Environment is an addition of ecological factors of living creatures.” Fitting
“Environment is the aggregate of all external conditions and influences affecting the life and development of an organism or group of organism.” – Vebsator
“Environment is the resource comprising land and all that it contains on the surface and beneath, water and the life it supports and air.” -Dr. Khoshoo
It is clear from the above definitions that the environment is made up of both physical and biological elements. Dr. Raghuvanshi has also written in his famous book ‘Environment and Pollution’ that ‘The word environment is the sum of all physical and biological conditions affecting the responses of organisms’. Thus the biosphere is defined under the biological environment. It is the part of the earth in which organisms live, it includes large and microscopic animals and plants, while the physical environment consists of soil, water, air, heat, light, etc., which creates the terrain and air system.
Therefore, the life and environment of the animal are complementary to each other. If man affects his natural wealth, then he himself will also be affected by that environment. The existence of living beings depends on the environment. In this way, three aspects of the environment are clearly visible – inorganic environment, biological environment, environment connected with economic and social activities. Landis has also divided the environment into a natural, social and cultural environment. Various environmentalists have laid special emphasis on the physical environment.
