जलवायु परिवर्तन के कारण मेडागास्कर के जंगल समाप्त हो सकते हैं, जलवायु परिवर्तन और वनों की कटाई 2070 तक मेडागास्कर के पूर्वी वर्षावनों के साथ वन्यजीवों के आवास को पूरी तरह से समाप्त कर सकती है। इससे द्वीप क्षेत्र में रहने वाले हजारों पौधों, स्तनधारियों, सरीसृपों और उभयचरों को सबसे अधिक नुकसान होगा। । एक नए अध्ययन में यह दावा किया गया है।

नेचर क्लाइमेट चेंज नामक पत्रिका में प्रकाशित इस अध्ययन में पाया गया कि क्षेत्र के संरक्षण से भविष्य में होने वाली तबाही को कम किया जा सकता है। लेकिन यह तभी संभव है जब पर्यावरणविद् ग्रीनहाउस गैस उत्सर्जन को समाप्त करने के लिए दीर्घकालिक समाधान की दिशा में काम करें। मेडागास्कर जैव विविधता के मुख्य महत्वपूर्ण बिंदुओं में से एक है। इसके क्षेत्र में केवल 80 से 90 प्रतिशत पशु और पौधों की प्रजातियां हैं। संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में न्यूयॉर्क शहर (CUNY) विश्वविद्यालय के शोधकर्ताओं के अनुसार, वनों की कटाई और जलवायु परिवर्तन के कारण हाल के दशकों में मेडागास्कर के जंगल तबाह हो गए हैं।

उन्होंने कहा कि मानवीय गतिविधियों के कारण, मेडागास्कर के पूर्वी हिस्से में एक बड़ा क्षेत्र पेड़ों से रहित हो गया है। कई जीव यहां रहते थे। यह क्षेत्र विशेष रूप से लुप्तप्राय बंदरों की दो प्रजातियों के लिए उपयुक्त था, जिन्हें लेमरस कहा जाता है। लेकिन अब उनके घर तबाह हो गए हैं,
