ओजोन प्रदूषण से अकाल मृत्यु होती है, वातावरण में सूर्य की पराबैंगनी किरणों को अवशोषित करके हमारी भूमि की रक्षा करने वाली ओजोन गैस जमीनी स्तर पर मनुष्यों के लिए घातक हो सकती है। एक नए अध्ययन में पाया गया है कि ओजोन प्रदूषण के एक जलवायु के दैनिक प्रदर्शन से अकाल मृत्यु का खतरा बढ़ सकता है। यह निष्कर्ष 20 देशों के 400 से अधिक शहरों में किए गए एक अध्ययन पर आधारित है। यह पता चला कि यदि विभिन्न देश वायु गुणवत्ता मानकों को सख्ती से लागू करते हैं तो छह हजार से अधिक लोगों को अकाल मृत्यु से बचाया जा सकता है। लंदन में ब्रिटिश स्कूल ऑफ हाइजीन एंड ट्रॉपिकल मेडिसिन के शोधकर्ताओं ने शहरी और उपनगरीय क्षेत्रों में उच्च प्रतिक्रिया के साथ जमीनी स्तर का ओजोन पाया। ओजोन एक गैस है जो तीन ऑक्सीजन अणुओं से बना है। जब यह सांस के जरिए शरीर में पहुंचता है, तो यह फेफड़ों को नुकसान पहुंचा सकता है।

उच्च टेस्टोस्टेरोन का स्तर महिलाओं में मधुमेह के खतरे को बढ़ाता है।

शोधकर्ताओं का कहना है कि जिन महिलाओं में आनुवंशिक रूप से टेस्टोस्टेरोन हार्मोन का उच्च स्तर होता है, उन्हें टाइप 2 मधुमेह जैसे चयापचय रोग का खतरा बढ़ सकता है। जर्नल नेचर मेडिसिन में प्रकाशित अध्ययन के अनुसार, टेस्टोस्टेरोन के उच्च स्तर से कैंसर का खतरा भी बढ़ सकता है। महिलाओं में स्तन के जबकि पुरुषों में इस हार्मोन का उच्च स्तर प्रोस्टेट कैंसर का कारण बन सकता है। कई अध्ययनों के विश्लेषण से यह निष्कर्ष निकाला गया है। आनुवंशिक रूप से उच्च टेस्टोस्टेरोन वाली महिलाओं में टाइप 2 मधुमेह का 37 प्रतिशत अधिक जोखिम होता है। जबकि पुरुषों में इस हार्मोन के उच्च स्तर के कारण टाइप 2 मधुमेह का जोखिम 14 प्रतिशत कम पाया गया। यूनाइटेड किंगडम के एक्सेटर विश्वविद्यालय के शोधकर्ता कैथरीन रूथ ने कहा, “हमारे परिणाम बताते हैं कि बीमारी पर टेस्टोस्टेरोन के प्रभावों की पूरी जांच की गई है। संतुलित स्तर बनाए रखना फायदेमंद हो सकता है।”
